At Orthocare Systems Orthodontics, we offer two-phase orthodontic treatment to help your child’s jaw and mouth grow and develop properly. We invite you to contact us at 314-739-8888 to learn more about two-phase orthodontics in St. Louis, Missouri, and to schedule your child’s appointment with Dr. E. Glenn Glassman.

Two-phase orthodontic treatment consists of two stages of treatments. We recommend that you do not delay receiving care in either stage of treatment, as postponing the treatments may result in a need for more invasive treatments at a later stage, and lessens the effects of those later treatments. Earlier treatments are almost always more effective. Our orthodontist will perform an initial evaluation to determine if early treatment is needed, and when it should begin.

During phase one of your child’s two-phase orthodontic treatment, our orthodontist will create and implement a treatment plan designed to help the jaw develop correctly to accommodate all your permanent teeth and ensure that your upper and lower jaws fit together properly. Children often exhibit signs of jaw problems as they grow and develop, and careful attention during this early stage of treatment can prevent future problems. As children’s bones have not fully developed, it is fairly easy to provide corrective treatments that will help your child avoid tooth extractions or other surgical procedures later.

There is a resting period between the two phases of treatment, in which teeth are left to develop on their own. During this period, our orthodontist will monitor the progress of your teeth to ensure that everything develops correctly and that permanent teeth emerge as planned.

In phase two, our orthodontist will carefully evaluate your teeth and jaws, and provide any necessary treatments to ensure that each tooth in your mouth is in its proper position and is in harmony with the other teeth, lips, tongue, and cheeks. Dr. E. Glenn Glassman will also make sure that your jaws are aligned correctly and function well together. Phase two treatment often involves wearing braces on your upper and lower arches, and using retainers following braces treatment to make sure that your beautiful smile does not shift out of place.
