Tongue cribs are habit-breaking appliances, frequently recommended for children who have habits of tongue thrusting or thumb sucking. Tongue thrusting is essentially when the tongue is kept in an incorrect position during swallowing. The constant pressure of the tongue forces the teeth out of alignment, and can cause bad bites and other dental problems. When this occurs, corrective treatments are needed to retrain your tongue into remaining in the correct position.

Tongue cribs are appliances that act like a cage for your tongue. Tongue cribs are held together by rings placed on the two back teeth of the mouth. After the rings are places, a wire is run from the front of the mouth to the back, to anchor the cage so that your child’s tongue cannot move forward and get into the space between the top and bottom of the front teeth.
