Are you aligning your teeth with braces in St. Louis, Missouri? If so, Dr. E. Glenn Glassman and our orthodontic team have some tips that can help you avoid bad breath.

First, keep up on oral hygiene. Make sure to brush and floss your teeth after each meal and snack. It’s common to get food stuck in your braces, and when this happens, the food oftentimes releases an odor. When you wash the food away from your smile, you can reduce your chances of having bad breath! For even fresher breath, you can swish with mouthwash.

Second, clean your tongue. Whether you use your toothbrush or a tongue scraper, you need to clean your tongue regularly. This can help you wash the odorous bacteria from your tongue, which can give you the pristine breath you desire.

Third, visit your dentist every six months. Your routine cleanings and checkups are vital for your oral health. These appointments can help you wash the stuck-on plaque and food particles that cling to the braces hardware and cause bad breath. This appointment can also deeply clean your smile.
