Braces can be useful tools that put your teeth in order. However, they can restrict what you eat. Certain foods can be hard on your braces. The question is, what will and will not be a problem?
If it is sticky, chewy or hard, odds are it will not get along with your braces. Also, if you have to really bite into it, you may have to choose something else, or fix it up a little differently.
Now you may be disappointed to hear what foods you should avoid, but take comfort in knowing that you can enjoy them again after the braces have given you a nice smile. Until that time, you will have to pass on hard candy, caramel, gum, pretzels and popcorn.
Some considerably healthier foods will have to be watched over as well, or else your braces may get in trouble. Some familiar things like apples, pears, carrots, corn on the cob, and rib meat are among this group.
Fortunately, there may be a way around the problem so you can enjoy some of these foods we just listed. Biting into that corn cob is an absolute bad idea, but if you cut the kernels off then you can eat them. You can try slicing and cutting some of the other healthy food options as well so they are easier to eat.
Understand that we have not listed all foods that pertain to braces. To learn more, consult with our orthodontist, and he will explain things further.
